Don R. Powell Ph.D. & American Institute for Preventive Medicine

Excerpted from "A Year of Health Hints"
365 Practical Ways to Feel Better and Live Longer

Health Hint # 192

One of the ingredients that makes cigarettes addictive is nicotine. One researcher says, "If cigarettes didn't contain nicotine, people would be no more inclined to smoke them than they would be to blow bubbles."

Some smokers are more dependent on nicotine than others. The test below can help you determine just how hooked you may be. (If you're seriously hooked, you may want to consider nicotine reduction therapy, discussed in Tip 196.)
