Early detection of testicular cancer--by a monthly self-exam--can lead to a complete cure 90 to 95 percent of the time. It's best performed when the scrotum is relaxed, after a warm bath or shower. Here's how it's done.
- Use a lotion or soapy lather to reduce friction and make it easier to detect abnormalities.
- Check both testicles, one at a time, by rolling the testes between the fingers. If you feel any lumps, enlargement, or change in consistency, see your doctor. Also, report any sense of heaviness or pain.
