English name: Cinnamon Twig Decoction
Component: Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae(gui zhi), Honey-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis(zhi gan cao), Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis Recens(sheng jiang), Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae(da zao), Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae(gui zhi), Honey-fried Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis(zhi gan cao), Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis Recens(sheng jiang), Fructus Zizyphi Jujubae(da zao)
Pharmacological Effect: This formula 1) is anti-viral, with anti-inflammatory propensities, 2) regulates body temperature, 3) regulates the secretion of sweat glands, 4) is a sedative, acts as an anodyne, 5) improves the immunity propensity for people with poorly constituted immune system; no effect in normal cases, 6) regulates the peristalsis of intestines, 7) alleviates coughing, dispels phlegm and calms wheezing.
Function: Releases pathogenic influences from the muscle layer and regulates the nutritive and protective qi.
Clinic Usage: This formula is for externally contracted wind-cold leading to an exterior cold-deficient condition. Symptoms include fever and chills unrelieved by sweating, headache, aversion to wind, a moist, white-coated tongue, and an erratic, weak pulse. Modern practitioners often use this formula for treatment of 1) colds in general, influenza, respiratory inflammation, 2) abnormal sweating, 3) cervix vertebral spondylosis, peritendinitis calcarea of shoulder joint, 4) allergies, 5) gynecological diseases.
Cautions: Use with caution if patients present sweating or bleeding.
