Component: Calculus Bovis(niu huang), Tuber Curcumae(yu jin), Cornu Rhinoceri(xi jiao), Rhizoma Coptidis(huang lian), Radix Scutellariae(huang qin), Fructus Gardeniae Jasminoidis(zhi zi), Cinnabaris(zhu sha), Realgar(xiong huang), Borneol(bing pian), Secretio Moschus(she xiang), Magarita(zhen zhu)
Pharmacological Effect: 1) Sedative, anti-eclamptic, 2) relieves fever, 3) protects brain organizations, 4) anti-inflammatory, 5) promotes phagocytosis, 6) lowers blood pressure.
Function: Clears heat, relieves toxicity, dislodges phlegm, opens the orifices, and calms the spirit.
Clinic Usage: This formula is for the serious stage in the progression of a warm-febrile disease. The pathogenic heat sinks into the pericardium and disturbs the spirit causing high fever, irritability and restlessness, delirium, and impaired consciousness. Also for coma due to wind-stroke or childhood convulsions with a similar presentation. Modern practitioners often use this formula for treatment of 1) acute high fever caused by epidemic, impaired consciousness, eclampsia, 2) serious children pneumonia, high fever due to septikopyaemia, unconsciousness, eclampsia, 3) uraemia, delirium caused by hepatic encephalopathy, irritability, high fever, 4) impaired consciousness caused by brain vessel damage or brain injury.
Cautions: Modern practitioners often use this formula for high fever treatment under an emergency condition.
