English name: Immature Bitter Orange, Chinese Chive, and Cinnamon Twig Decoction
Component: Fructus Gardeniae Jasminoidis(zhi zi), Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis(hou po), Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae(gui zhi), Fructus Trichosanthis(gua lou)
Function: Unblocks the yang, dissipates clumps, expels phlegm and directs the qi downward.
Clinic Usage: This formula is for painful obstruction of the chest, or a stabbing pain that radiates from the chest to the back, wheezing, coughing, a stifling sensation as if air is flowing from hypochondria to the area around the heart, a white, greasy tongue coating and a faint, wiry or tight pulse.
Caution: Modern practitioners often use this formula for disorders such as angina pectoris.
