Function: Disperses wind-heat, clears heat and eliminates toxin.
Clinic Usage: This formula is for treatment of acute, massive febrile disorder of the head due to a seasonal epidemic toxin associated with wind-heat. The upper burner is filled with the toxin and the pathogenic influences are reflected in head and face. Symptoms include strong fever and chills, redness, swelling, and burning pain of the head and face, difficulty keeping eyes open, dysfunction of the throat, dryness and thirst, a red tongue with yellow coating and an uneven, rapid and forceful pulse.
Cautions: Modern practitioners often use the formula for epidemic parotitis and cellulitis of the head and face.
