This formula treats liver heat which causes liver and stomach disharmony. Symptoms include chest and rib side pain and distention, acid regurgitation, vomiting, a bitter taste in the mouth, epigastric focal distention, a red tongue with a yellow coating and a wiry, rapid pulse. |

The proportion of Rhizoma Coptidis (huang lian) and Fructus Evodiae Rutaecarpae (wu zhu yu) in this formula should be 6 to 1. |
