English name:	Major Decoction to Order the Qi

Component:	Radix et Rhizoma Rhei(da huang), Mirabilitum(mang xiao), Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis(hou po), Fructus Gardeniae Jasminoidis(zhi zi)

Pharmacological Effect::	1) helps with bowel movement, stimulates the bowels, 2) treatment of experimental ileus, 3) anti-inflammatory and has anti-viral propensities, and 4) improves respiratory problems resulting from febrile conditions.

Function:	Vigorously purges heat accumulation.

Clinic Usage:	This formula is for yang brightness organ-stage disorder, which is characterized by heat accumulating in the interior. Symptoms include severe constipation, focal distention and abdominal fullness, increased abdominal pain when pressed, tidal fevers, profuse sweating occurring on the palms and soles, a dry, yellow or dry, black tongue coating with prickly sensation, and a faint, excessive pulse. Modern practitioners use this formula for treatment of 1) constipation, 2) ileus, 3) acute pancreatitis, and 4) acute pneumonia.

Cautions:	This is a very strong formula for bowel purging.
