English name: Tang-Kuei
Where grown: Central and west China.
Source: Dried root of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels.
Ingredients: n-Valerophenone-O-Carboxylic acid, 2,4-Dihydrophthalic anhydride
Pharmacological effect: The herbal extract inhibits assembling of thrombocytes in mice.
Properties: Sweet, acrid, warm
Channels entered: Liver, heart, spleen
Function: Tones and regulates blood, stimulates blood circulation, regulates menstruation, alleviates pain, moistens dryness and stimulates bowel movements.
Major Clinic Usage: For irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, abdominal pain, mass in the abdomen, heavy or incessant vaginal discharge, pain due to blood deficiency and dizziness. Use with Ramulus Cinnamomi Cassiae(gui zhi), Radix Angelicae Pubescentis(du huo), Ramulus Sanjisheng(sang ji sheng) for flaccidity and numbness. For constipation, dysentery, tenesmus, carbuncles and traumatic injuries due to falling, fracture or sprain, use the tail (the part deepest in the soil) for best result.
Cautions: Contraindicated in cases of a sense of fullness in the middle burner due to excessive dampness, and loose stool or diarrhea.
Usage and Dosage: 6~12g
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid dampness and infestation by worms.
