English name: Pseudostellaria
Where grown: Central China.
Source: Dried rhizome of Pseudostellaria heterophylla Pax ex Pax et Hoffm.=P. rhaphanorriza (Hemsl.) Pax.
Ingredients: Stigmasta-7, 22dien-3one
Properties: Sweet, slightly bitter, neutral
Channels entered: Spleen, lung
Function: Strengthens spleen, promotes qi, and generates saliva. (It is not as effective as dang shen in strengthening stomach and spleen, but more effective in saliva generation.)
Major Clinic Usage: For coughing due to lung deficiency, diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, fatigue, spontaneous sweating, lack of appetite and thirst after a warm-febrile disease.
Usage and Dosage: 9~30g
Storage: Store in a lime pot. Avoid mold and infestation by worms.
