English name: Atractylodes rhizome
Where grown: North and northwestern China.
Source: The dried rhizome of Aractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC. or Atractylodes chinensis (DC.) Koidz.
Ingredients: Hinesol, Eudesmol, Elemol, �-Selinene, Atractylone, Atractylodin
Pharmacological effect: 1) Diuretic effect: the diuretic effect is not obvious, but the excretion of sodium, potassium and chlorine in the urine has been increased significantly. 2) Effect on glucose: the herb extract can reduce glucose of rabbits continuously. 3) Inhibiting effect on central system: the mixture of ß-eudesmol and Hinesol has a sedative effect on small white mice. Their sleeping hours can also be extended. It also has inhibiting effect on convulsion due to electric shock and positive effect on carbon particle delivery in the small intestine. 4) Effect on gastrointestinal system: the herb ingredient has an inhibiting effect on the secretion of histaminic gastric acid and constrains gastric ulcer.
Properties: Acrid, bitter, warm
Channels entered: Liver, spleen, stomach
Function: Strengthens stomach and spleen, dispels dampness, induces sweating, dispels wind, promotes qi, relieves wind-cold symptoms and expels stagnant, turbid dampness.
Major Clinic Usage: For dampness obstructing the middle, reduced appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, wind-cold dampness and numbness, common cold, night-blindness, headache due to wind-cold dampness, body ache and lack of sweat.
Cautions: Contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency with internal heat signs or qi deficiency with profuse sweating.
Usage and Dosage: 3~9g
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place.
