English name: Cocklebur fruit, xanthium
Where grown: In Shandong, Jiangxi, Hubei, Jiangxi areas of China.
Source: The dried fruit of Xanthium sibiricum Patr. Et Widd. and its family.
Ingredients: ß-Sito-sterol-D-glucoside, 3 and 4-dihydroxycinnamicacid
Properties: Acrid, bitter, warm, toxic
Channels entered: Lung
Function: Induces sweating, dispels wind and dampness. The effect reaches throughout vertex to knee and feet and includes the skin.
Major Clinic Usage: For wind-cold headache, blurred vision, nasal congestion, toothache, dampness and numbness, spasms in the limbs and scabies.
Cautions: Contraindicated for headache due to blood deficiency. Overdosing may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain.
Usage and Dosage: 3~9g
Storage: Store in a dry, well-ventilated place. Avoid dampness.
