| Ingredients: |
Bupleurum chinense DC contains Saikoside, Saikogenin, Stigrusterol, Adonitol, Daikogenin, Rutin and Bupleurumol. B. scorzonerifolium Wild includes Saikoside, Rutin, Narcissin and Bupleurumol. |
| Pharmacological effect: |
1) Temperature regulation effect: oral ingestion of the herb liquid reduces the temperature of rabbits considerably. It has a strong antipyretic effect on rabbit fever induced by pseudomonas fluorescens. 2) Central nervous system effect: the ingredient saikoside has a sedative effect on small white mice. It extends the sleeping time after they were put to sleep by hexobarbital. It also has pain alleviation and antitussive effects, but no significant effect on convulsion constraint. 3) Anti-inflammatory effect: saikosides has a significant vitro inhibitory effect in small white mice with induced inflammation in feet and ankles. 4) Liver function effect: in animal experiments, artificially induced liver obstruction in large white mice by CCl4 can have the active serum ALP reduced considerably by taking the herb. The herb can also reduce GOT, GPT and BSP. 5) Other effects: oral ingestion of 400 mg of the herb extract has the effect of urination constraint in large white mice, and eye pupil contraction in small white mice. Intake of 800 mg will result in increase of urine production and dilation of the pupil. The herb also prevents peptic ulcers and constrains the secretion of gastric juice and active pepsin. The mixture with saikoside effectively prevents and improves liver obstruction in experiments. |
