| Pharmacological effect: |
1) Effect on central system: the intravenous injection of arecoline stimulates brain stem and cortex brain wave. Cats appeared to have various automatic involuntary symptoms. 2) Effect on smooth muscle: arecoline has a similar effect as that of pilovarpine. It strengthens the tension and contractions of intestinal and pupilary smooth muscle. |
