English name: Turmeric tuber
Where grown: In south China.
Source: The dried rhizome of Curcuma wenyujin Y. H. Chen et C. Ling and its family.
Ingredients: d-camphene, d-camphor, curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, turmerone
Pharmacological effect: The preparation prevents arteriosclerosis, increases gallbladder contractions, and has a vitro inhibition effect.
Properties: Acrid, bitter, cold
Channels entered: Liver, gall, heart
Function: Invigorates blood, alleviates pain, promotes movement of qi and releases constraints.
Major Clinic Usage: For irregular menstruation, distended, painful chest and rib cage, painful menstruation, blood stasis, blood expectoration, jaundice, gall stone and epilepsy.
Cautions: Do not use the herb with Flos Caryophylli(ding xiang).Their properties contradict each other.
Usage and Dosage: 6~12g
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from worm infestation.
