Where grown: North and southwest China.
Source: Dried root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall.Lynch and its family.
Ingredients: ß-Sitosterol, Paeoniflorin, myoinositol, Oxypaeoniflorin, Paeoniflorigenone, Gallotannin
Pharmacological effect: 1) Effect on the gastrointestinal system: the decoction stimulates peristalsis of stomach in rabbits. It also increases the tension and oscillating intensity of intestines. 2) An abdominal injection of the herbal extract on rabbits has the effect of reducing blood serum urea nitrogen.
Properties: Bitter, slightly cold
Channels entered: Liver
Function: Drains liver fire, invigorates blood, unblocks menstrual flow, reduces swellings and alleviates pain.
Major Clinic Usage: For blood stasis, amenorrhea, heavy vaginal discharge, leukorrhea, dysentery with bloody stool, painful abdomen, carbuncles, swellings, red eyes and nosebleeds.
Cautions: Use with caution in cases of blood deficiency. Do not use with Radix et Rhizoma Veratri(li lu).
Usage and Dosage: 6~12g
Storage: Store in a dry place. Protect from worm infestation.
