Where grown: India
Source: Dried rhizome of Picrorrhiza Kurrooa ROYLE ex Benth.
Ingredients: Picroside I, Picroside II, Apocynin, Kutkoside, Kutkin
Pharmacological effect: Apocynin can stimulate bile secretion. It also presented flaccid astringency on ileum in mice and uterus relaxation in rabbits. Picroside II can also stimulate bile secretion in rabbits.
Properties: Bitter, cold
Channels entered: Liver, stomach, large intestine
Function: Drains heat, cools blood and dries dampness.
Major Clinic Usage: For hectic fever due to consumptive disease, dysphoria with feverish sensation in chest, palms and soles, removes perspiration around the external genitals, blood expectoration, nosebleeds, childhood convulsion and fever and bleeding hemorrhoids. Also improves vision.
Usage and Dosage: 1.5~9g
Storage: Store in a dry, well-ventilated place. Prevent from dampness.
