Where grown: Central and south China.
Source: Rhizome and leaves of Coptis Chinensis Franch.
Ingredients: Berberine, Coptisine, Worenine, Palmatine
Pharmacological effect: 1) Has anti-microbial and anti-protozoan properties. 2) Has blood vessel dilation effect. 3) Can stimulate smooth muscle.
Properties: Bitter, cold
Channels entered: Heart, liver, stomach, large intestine
Function: Clears heat, dries dampness, drains fire and relieves toxicity.
Major Clinic Usage: For diarrhea due to damp-heat in the gastrointestinal system, dysenteric disorder, vomiting, high fever due to febrile disease, irritability or impaired consciousness and delirium. Can also be used for ulcers, boils and toxic swellings.
Usage and Dosage: 2~10g
