| Pharmacological effect: |
1) Effect on gastrointestinal system: an ingredient baicalin can stimulate bile secretion. It can also stimulate intestinal peristalsis in rabbits. The other ingredient wogonin has no such effects. The herb can also be used as a gentle laxative. 2) Anti-inflammatory effect: flavonoids can treat inflammation effectively. It demonstrated a significant inhibiting effect in treating edema induced by carrageenin in mice. 3) Anti-anaphylactic effect: the herb extract has an inhibiting effect on asthma and allergic dermatitis. Baicalein can be used as an antidote. It also has an inhibiting effect on acetylcholine and capillary permeability. In general it presented a good anti-anaphylactic effect. 4) Antiseptic effect: the herb extract has an inhibiting effect on gram-positive bacterium. 5) Atherosclerosis prevention: oral ingestion of the herb solution has a preventive effect on induced atherosclerosis in rabbits. |
