| Pharmacological effect: |
1) Effect on glucose: oral ingestion of the herbal extract can lower glucose in rabbits. 2) Others: the herbal extract can strengthen heart and elevate blood pressure. A small dose can contract blood vessels and large amount will expand them. It is diuretic due to its heart-strengthening and kidney vessel expansion effects. The diuretic effect can be attributed to its active ingredient catalpol. Catalpol has also proved to be an effective laxative. |
