| Pharmacological effect: |
1) Stimulating bile secretion: the herbal extract can stimulate bile secretion. It also has an inhibiting effect on bilirubin ascending of blood or peripheral lymph due to common bile duct ligation in rabbits or mice. The ingredeients crocin, crocetion and geniposide can promote bile secretion. Genipin improves sodium ion delivery from hepatic cells to bile capillaries. Therefore it can stimulate bile secretion significantly. 2) Laxative effect: dissolving jasminoidin with water has a laxative effect in the large intestine. Jasminoidin has no effect on small intestine, cecum or colon. 3) Effect on intestines: the ingredient genepin has an inhibiting effect on acetylcholine, pilocarpine, histamine and serotonin of small intestine in mice. It can also alleviate the stomach twitch symptom caused by acetic acid. The ingredient crocin can prevent arteriosclerosis in lab rabbits. |
