Where grown:	Thailand, Vietnam, and south China

Source:	The dried rhizome of Platycodon grandiflorum (JACQ.) A. DC.

Ingredients:	Polygalacic acid, Platycogenic acid A, Platycodigenin, Platycoside C, Prosapogenin

Pharmacological effect:	1) In animal experiments, the herb extract is effective in hemolysis and local excitation. It is also effective as a sedative, analgesic or antipyretic. It has an anti-inflammatory propensity and helps remove phlegm. In addition it has an inhibiting effect on ulcers and gastric juice secretion. 2) The herb extract has a stimulating effect on blood flow of coronary artery and hind legs of dogs.

Properties:	Bitter, acrid, neutral

Function:	Soothes chest and diaphragm and warms the middle.

Major Clinic Usage:	For coughing due to externally contracted disease, swollen and painful throat.

Usage and Dosage::	3~9g
