English name:	Purple aster root

Where grown:	Hebei, Anhui areas of China.

Source:	Dried root and rhizome of Aster tataricus L. f.

Ingredients:	Epifriedelinol, Friedelin, Shionone, Lachnophyllol, Anethole

Properties:	Acrid, bitter, warm

Channels entered:	Lung

Function:	Warms lung, directs qi downward, transforms phlegm, alleviates coughing, regulates and unblocks water channel. This is an efficient herb for blood-streaked sputum due to yin deficiency and other blood deficiency symptoms.

Major Clinic Usage:	For coughing, wheezing, ache in lung, blood expectoration with pus, throat inflammation, and scanty, dark urine.

Cautions:	Contraindicated in cased of excessive heat.

Usage and Dosage:	5~9g

Storage:	Store in a cool, dry place.
