English name: Clove
Where grown: Malaysia, Indonesia, Tanzania.
Source: The dried flower of Eugenia caryophyllata Thunb.
Ingredients: Kaenpferol, Rhamnetin, a-ylangene, Chavicol, ß-Caryophyllene, Eugeniin
Pharmacological effect: 1) Increases feline uterine contractions. Also increases the peristalsis of rabbit's uterus. 2) Has an inhibiting effect on the growth of dermatophytic dictamine. 3) The mixture of the herb extract and ferric sulfate improves induced gastric ulcer on large white mice.
Properties: Acrid, warm
Channels entered: Spleen, stomach, lung, kidney
Function: Warms spleen and stomach, directs negative qi downward, alleviates pain, strengthens yang, and warms vaginal orifice.
Major Clinic Usage: For regurgitation, vomiting, diarrhea, stomachache, pain in the heart and abdomen, deficient stomach, and smallpox that do not surface but present a greyish look.
Cautions: Contraindicated in cases of febrile disease or yin deficiency with internal heat signs. Do not use with Radix Curcumae(yu jin).
Usage and Dosage: 1~3g
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid heat.
