English name: Aconite root
Where grown: Central China.
Source: The dried tuberous root of Aconitum carmichaeli.
Ingredients: Aconitinc, Hypaconitinc, Mcsaconitinc, Camichaclinc
Pharmacological effect: 1) Oral ingestion of 1 mg/kg aconitinc has an inhibiting effect on spontaneous activities in large white mice. It can also lower body temperature. 2) In rabbit experiment, aconitinc lowered blood pressure temporarily, reduced number of heartbeats, and caused disturbances in electrocardiogram conduction.
Properties: Acrid, sweet, strong heat, toxic
Channels entered: Heart, kidney, spleen
Function: Restores the yang, invigorates the fire and nourishes the yang, dispels cold and dampness.
Major Clinic Usage: For symptoms of profuse sweating which severly injures the yang, weakness of the extremities, cramp due to cholera morbus, aversion to cold, spontaneous sweating, heart and abdominal pain due to cold, dysentery, damp numbness due to wind-cold, painful convulsions, beriberi and edema.
Cautions: Contraindicated during pregnancy. Do not use with Rhizoma Pinelliae(ban xia), Fructus Trichosanthis(gua lou), Radix Trichosanthis(tian hua fen), Bulbus Fritillariae(bei mu), Radix Ampelopsis(bai lian), or Rhizoma Bletillae(bai ji).
Usage and Dosage: 3~15g
Storage: Tightly sealed. Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid dampness.
