English name: Cinnamon bark
Where grown: South China, Sri Lanka, Vietnam.
Source: The dried bark of Cinnamomum cassia Presl.
Ingredients: Cinnzeylanin, Cinnzeylanol, Cinncassiol A, Cinncassiol A glucoside, Cinnamaldehyde
Pharmacological effect: 1) Temperature regulation effect: the herb extract reduces fever induced by Bacillus coli in rabbits. The ingredient cinnamaldehyde presents a dermovascular dilation effect. 2) Anti-anaphylactic effect: the herb extract has an inhibiting effect on free lung allergen in mice. It also has an inhibiting effect on the urinary protein due to acute nephritis in large white mice. 3) Effect on central nervous system: ingredient cinnamaldehyde suppresses convulsions, has sedative properties, controls temperature and is antipyretic. 4) Cardiovascular effect: the herb oils can dilate peripheral blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and enforce heart contraction.
Properties: Acrid, sweet, strong heat
Channels entered: Kidney, spleen, heart, liver
Function: Nourishes the fire from the gate of life, warms kidney, strengthens yang, heals consumptive disease, dispels blood stasis, and unblocks amenorrhea.
Major Clinic Usage: For severe and obstinate cold retention, abdominal pain due to cold deficiency, diarrhea, peri-umbilical colic due to cold invasion, a sensation of gushing gas from lower abdomen, soreness in the waist and knee due to cold, migratory neuralgia, a sensation of convulsion in the joint, postpartum stagnant mass in the abdomen, and traumatic injuries due to factures, falls, or contusions.
Cautions: Use with caution during pregnancy and for patients who tend to bleed. Do not use with Halloysitum Rubrum(chi shi zhi).
Usage and Dosage: 1~4.5g
Storage: Tightly sealed. Store in a cool, dry place.
