Where grown: South China.
Source: The ripe fruit of Euodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth. and its family.
Ingredients: Evodiamine, Rutaecarpine, Evocarpine, Rutaevin, Dehydroevodiamine, Goshuyuic acid
Pharmacological effect: 1) The ingredients evodiamine and rutaecarpine have an analgesic effect. They are also effective in elevating blood pressure, elevating body temperature slightly, and stimulating blood flow. 2) Has an inhibiting effect on small intestine peristalsis in rabbits. 3) Evodiamine and Dehydroevodiamine can stimulate uterine contractions in mice. 4) ß-indoletyhlamike can stimulate labor pains and central nervous system. It also has a styptic effect.
Properties: Acrid, bitter, hot, slightly toxic
Channels entered: Liver, stomach, spleen
Function: Expels cold, alleviates pain, spreads liver qi and directs it downward, dries dampness.
Major Clinic Usage: For abdominal pain due to cold, hernia, headache, diarrhea due to cold deficiency, a gushing cold gas from foot to abdomen, and regurgitation. When applied to sole of foot, can direct fire downward.
Cautions: Contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency with heat signs.
Usage and Dosage: 1.5~5g. Use proper amount for external application.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place.
