English name: Wild ginger
Where grown: Northeastern and north China.
Source: The dried root and rhizome of Asarum heterotropoides Fr. Schumidt var. mandshuricum (Maxim.) Kitag and its family.
Ingredients: Methyleugenol, sagrole, Asarivin, Eucarvone, Asatone, Maganoflarine, cineole
Pharmacological effect: 1) Anti-anaphylactic effect: the herb extract has an inhibiting effect on lung allergen of mice. 2) Has an inhibiting effect on ileum histamine in mice. 3) Antipyretic and analgesic effects: with the herb volatile oils floating on acacia mucilage, can lower body temperature of rabbits. It also reduces fever due to typhoid fever vaccine. It can alleviate pain and is a sedative.
Properties: Acrid, warm
Channels entered: Heart, lung, kidney
Function: Dispels wind, alleviates pain, expels cold, vents rashes, warms lung, transforms phlegm, and helps movement of water-induced qi. It also unblocks essential qi, opens nasal orifices, treats deafness, nasal congestion, and trichiasis.
Major Clinic Usage: For headache due to wind-cold, continual discharge of nasal mucus, phlegm retention, coughing due to dyspnea, arthritis and numbness.
Cautions: Contraindicated in cases of profuse sweating due to qi deficiency, headache due to blood deficiency, or coughing due to yin deficiency. Do not use with Radix et Rhizoma Veratri(li lu).
Usage and Dosage: 1~3g. Use proper amount for external application.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid dampness
