English name: Notoginseng root
Where grown: In Yunnan, Guangxi areas of China.
Source: The dried rhizome of Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen and its family.
Ingredients: ginsenoside, Notoginsenoside, Chikusetsusaponin
Pharmacological effect: 1) Improves blood coagulation. 2) Prevents thrombosis. 3) Prevents myocardial ischemia and insufficient cerebral blood flow. 4) Prevents arrhythmia, suppress tumor growth and protects against side effects of radiation.
Properties: Sweet, slightly bitter, warm
Channels entered: Liver, stomach
Function: Dispels stasis, stops bleeding, reduces swellings, alleviates pain, heals traumatic wounds.
Major Clinic Usage: For blood expectoration, nosebleed, dysenteric disorder, heavy blood discharge, menorrhagia, carbuncles, knife wounds, traumatic injuries and bleedings due to falls, fractures, contusions, or sprains.
Cautions: Contraindicated during pregnancy.
Usage and Dosage: 3~9g. To use in powders, 1~3g per dosage. Use proper dosage for external use.
Storage: Store in a dry, well-ventilated place. Avoid mold and infestation by worms.
